What happens to muscles when we run long? Podcast.

Ian Dobson and Julia Lucas will race in the U.S. 15K Trail Championship this weekend in Spokane. Just announced. Oddly, no entry about this on their blog. They're traveling, and maybe this is a last minute decision. A good, fun decision, I think.

How was COC last night? I heard there were about 500 racers, with a bunch from Burbank High. Of course what I really want to know is did Mike Kent beat everyone I know.

The Morning Croissant Yeah, it looks good, and everyone is very cool, but what's with the cream stuff in their coffee? Real runners drink it black.

Will I ever tire of Walking Man? See here and here. The latter item is from today's Los Angeles Times, which also has a story on a San Fernando doctor who yesterday was sentenced to 25 years in prison for prescribing pain medication without doing medical examinations, with a death resulting.

Tough guy. Last weekend, he finished the Vermont Endurance Run (100 miles) in 23:45.

Grandmothers of Endurance

Slow and steady won the race. Link. With a bit of barefoot hooey to step in.

I'll check more into the book on the Mayflower as I have more than a passing interest in it. But if (like one of the reviews of it on the Amazon page that was linked) the author thinks they were "Puritans" it may not be too well researched.

I believe those who we usually call "the Pilgrims" thought they were not Puritans - ones who wanted to purify the Church of England. I believe they were thought of themselves more as "Separatists" - ones who wanted to separate from the Church of England entirely.

And, Mike, glad to see you running so well! ;)

You're right. The early Pilgrims were Separatists, not Puritans. Philbrick, the author, makes that clear.

BTW, you think Killer Hill and marathoning is tough? Those folks on the Mayflower...

Good, Don, glad to hear it - wish the reviewer had remembered that. :)

And, yes, they were tough - on a level that would be beyond what I've faced, no doubt.

See what 250 miles of biking in Mammoth will do for you.
